| Description: | Formerly established as kitchen manufacturers and installers whist offering a full design service, Dr Board and Benchtops now concentrate their efforts exclusively to supplying to the cabinetmaking industry. The versatile machinery set up in the factory allows them to extend their range of componentry from kitchens to wardrobes, vanities, and built-in furniture. Rather than compete with other small kitchen suppliers, they decided instead to focus on servicing them. Specialising in cut to size particleboard, laminated benchtops, cabinet hardware and cabinet componentry, this family business now services the “boutique” kitchen manufacturer, contract builders, shopfitters and the skilled D-I-Y home renovator. With over 20 years experience in manufacturing cabinets, they have accumulated a team of highly trained wood machinists and invested in machinery to include a new beam saw, high quality German edge bander and CNC router. Owner Ralph McKavanagh explains : “ When you have high quality machinery which drills and routers to within a tolerance of 0.05mm, the manufactured article is so superior to that cut or drilled by hand – by this I mean pin-point accuracy, providing even clearance on the finished cabinets – this type of precision delivers componentry that is easy to fit hardware to, assemble and install. Our edge bander is running continuously to maintain a constant temperature at the glue pot, which in turn guarantees a top quality adhesion, and this being a vital part of the manufacturing process.” To provide a complete service in addition to supplying the custom- manufactured cabinetry, Dr Board and Benchtops are also a recognised distributor of Hettich hardware. “Having been in the business for twenty years we have road-tested Hettich hardware and have always found it durable and user-friendly with a large range of well-thought-out solutions for many applications.” Dr Board and Benchtops will soon re-open their (former kitchen display) showroom, to showcase the high-end range of cabinet fittings and accessories. Based on Hettich’s concept of the “Intelligent Kitchen” the display is clearly separated into the functions of food storage, food preparation, cleaning, recycling, waste and tableware. It will also feature a compact wardrobe and home office solution. “Cabinetmakers and builders, who buy our cut-to-size and hardware can now send their clients to us for help in choosing the right drawer systems, bins, handles and storage solutions; we will even assist in colour selection. For the skilled DIY customer, once we have their commitment, we will help get them started on their specifications and cutting lists. Some of our best jobs have even been built by other professions - electricians, plumbers and school teachers - once we showed them the basics!” | |||
